WWW WEDNESDAY

wwwwednesdaygifEvery week, MizB hosts WWW Wednesday on her blog, Should Be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

MY ANSWERS:

What are you currently reading?

ALPENO Paperback Cover_2.inddRight now I am about three quarters of the way through an unusual sort of book called Abe Lincoln: Public Enemy No. 1.  They call the genre “Alternate History”. Surprisingly, to me, it is pretty cool. I never took American History. Ask me about the 1916 Rising or Cromwell and I’m good. But as to American History, after “In fourteen hundred ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue” or current events, and I’m lost. And as American History is not a topic I feel like studying as an adult, this has een a quirky sort of way to learn about two different eras… combined. Weird I know, but as I said, surprisingly cool. I will be rviewing here on the blog on October 6th ad there will be a giveaway so try and stop by.

I just finished an historical mystery by M. Louisa Locke called Bloody Lessons: A Victorian San Francisco Mystery .  Set in 1880 San Francisco, it took me a little while to get into it but once I did, it was a pretty good mystery with a lot of political parallels to modern day. I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had read the first two in the series. More here on the blog on October 4th.

What do you think you’ll read next?

81susFz2ihL._SL1500_Next on my To Be Read pile is Black Dog: A Cooper & Fry Mystery  by Stephen Booth which will be on the blog October 9th. Blurb: As helicopters search Northern England’s Peak District for fifteen year-old Laura Vernon, Detective Constable Ben Cooper quietly dreads the worst. And when her body is found in the woods, Cooper’s investigation begins with a short list of markedly uncooperative suspects: retired miner Harry Dickinson, whose black Labrador discovered Laura’s body, and Laura’s wealthy parents. Uneasily teamed with ambitious newcomer Detective Constible Diane Fry, Cooper tests a town’s family ties, friendships, and loyaties — and finds that in order to understand the present, they must unearth the past.

  1. I just finished (less than 30 min. ago) Amid the Dust and Ashes by Clay Mitchell, a mystery wrapped in an enigma. A fairy new first book by a down to earth author. Well worth seeking out.

I’m now going to read The Designer Bag at the Garbage Dump by Jackie McCurvin, a story of redemption and finding what you need.

The next book in the pile is Hide and Seek by P. S. Brown, which I was intrigued by after I read the tinyurl attached to a recent tweet with lots of good press.

Any of these could change as I have a couple of GoodReads wins coming.
