So Twinkies are coming back. I wonder how that will go. I mean when we heard they were going out of business everybody was running out and buying them – if they could find them. I admit that even I did it. But really, before you heard you couldn’t have them anymore, when was the last time you had one? I never even had them much as a kid. I liked the Sno Balls. Actually, it was not so much I liked them, they were pretty horrible, but it was fun to peel the marshmallow off the cupcake. I played with them more than ate them. I had a boss once who was nuts about Twinkies. You know how some guys keep a bottle of whiskey in the bottom desk drawer? He hid Twinkies there. And he didn’t seem the Twinkie type. Former hockey player and construction worker. Cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Of course the Twinkies were a secret vice. Until I found them and let the cat out of the bag. I used to go to this incredible, very upscale, restaurant that did a deep fried Twinkie for dessert. It was nothing like the carnival ones. Light as a feather and drizzled with a little crème anglaise and chocolate sauce. You got two on the plate but I always brought the second one home to my son. If you didn’t know it was a Twinkie, you would never guess. We tried to make them at home but ours tasted like the carnival ones. The promotion is all over the place. But I have to wonder, do we really miss them? Or were we just wanting something because we were told we couldn’t have it?
